  1. One of them characters in that there book is 'Lijah. He is a-terrified of snakes, to which he admits on page 8, an' he was the first kid in town t'be born free, as it says on the back cov'r. Another character is Ma. She also 'fraid of somethin', but that somethin' is toady-frogs. She very pro-tect-ive, and is always sayin' that 'Lijah is fra-gile like on page 10.

One character is Elijah. He is afraid of snakes because it says so on page 8, like what Michael said. He also was the first child to be born free in his town, like it says on page 24. Elijah is one of the main characters.
Another character is Cooter, Elijah's best friend. Cooter is just like Elijah and loves a good laugh like on pages 14 and 15. Only Cooter was not the first to be born free.

  3. Elijah is one of the characters in the story. On page 8 it says he is afraid of snakes. And on page 24 it tells how he was the first african american child to be born free in his town.
Another character is Elijah's Mom. SHe thinks Elijah is a very fragile boy and she is very afraid of toady- frogs, which is a toad or a frog.

  4. One character in the story is Elijah. Elijah is what most people call fragile. His ma calls him that on page 10, like Michael said before. 'Lijah is afraid of snakes and doing some things by himself. But, one thing he's not scared about is fishing. But, other than that most people still call him fragile.

Another character is the "preacher". The preacher is a very cunning man. He will try and trick you into giving him something or doing something for him. You can see an example in chapter 3. He also likes to exaggerate stories

  5. A main character in the story is Elijah. Some may call him Lijah, though. If you have ever met him, you would know that he is terrified of snakes. Or, if you haven't, you could buy the book, and look it up on page 8. He has a gift either from the Lord, or from the devil. But, like the Preacher stated, it's definately from the Lord. This gift means he can chunk fish with stones, and sell them as dinner. Lijah is a special little boy, because he was the first african american child born free in Buxton.

Another character is Ma, Lijah's.....well, Ma. She also has a fear of something. Not snakes, but what Buxton calls Toady-frogs. She is a great mom, though. Protective and everything.

  6. Elijah is the first free slave and is scared of snakes, he also enjoys going and helping his neighbors. Elijah's mom is a strong woman who is (for some reason) scared of toads and frogs, she also knows how to deal with Elijah when ever he may get out of line.
